Samsung Kenox Z130S Review: The Vintage Roots of Jisoo’s Camera

As the digital age reaches its peak, more people are seeking the warmth of analog. Following this trend, I rummaged through my parents’ attic and discovered a film camera: the Samsung Kenox Z130S. This model is the technical ancestor of the Slim Zoom series, which includes the Kenox FX-4—a camera currently in high demand and famously known as the “Jisoo Camera.” Pulling it out after decades, I was struck by its solid presence. Feeling the sturdy body in my palm gave me the authentic sensation of holding a true tool for photography.

The Slim Zoom Legend: Carrying the DNA of the FX-4

The Samsung Kenox Z130S is a high-spec automatic zoom model that led the golden era of Samsung cameras in the 90s. While the FX-4 boasts more refined curves, the Z130S acts as its sibling model, possessing a more classic and robust aesthetic. Honestly, when I first picked it up, I worried its bulky look might clash with modern sensibilities. However, watching the lens cap open with a mechanical whir as the lens extended was a genuinely charming experience. Its powerful 38-130mm zoom lens provides confidence, covering everything from landscapes to telephoto shots.

Solving CR123A Battery Issues with Modern USB-C Charging

Although the exterior was clean, the biggest hurdle was the battery. It uses a CR123A lithium battery, which had completely discharged over the years. At first, the camera didn’t respond to the power button, and I almost gave up thinking it was broken. Since these batteries are expensive and hard to find at convenience stores, I purchased a rechargeable alternative that allows for USB-C charging. Seeing the date-back display light up after the swap brought a wave of relief—my camera was finally breathing again.
