The Spyder Cube—an essential item that everyone who shoots product photography seems to own! I finally couldn’t resist the temptation and ended up buying one.
Lately, Datacolor has been running a promotion where the Spyder Cube is offered as a gift when you register other products in the Spyder lineup. I spent days lurking on secondhand marketplaces, hoping to find an unopened one for a low price. Honestly, I even considered giving up, thinking, “Am I just buying this to show off?”
However, my go-to shop offered an in-house discount, combined with a credit card promo, a gift certificate event, free shipping, and some decent points back. With all these discounts stacked together, I simply couldn’t say no. So, without any regrets, I pulled the trigger on a brand-new unit.
But now that I’ve bought it, I realize I rarely set up for serious photography at home. Even when I do take photos, I usually just grab my phone and snap them quickly. I really don’t know what I’m doing. I guess the end of the “Gear Acquisition Syndrome” terminal illness is just endless self-rationalization.

Still, since I bought it, I might as well get my money’s worth, right? I’m now gearing up to achieve the perfect white balance by using the Spyder Cube alongside the Spyder Checker I’ve had tucked away in my closet. I’m planning to take some proper product photos soon!
