The Hori Slime PS4 Controller: Why It’s Iconic
When you use countless pieces of gear, there’s always that one item that stays in your heart—whether it’s because the design is so appealing even if it lacks practicality, or because your hands reach for it constantly despite its questionable looks. I have one game controller that stole my heart not because of performance or popularity, but simply because of its unique concept. Haha.
Gaming gear is always better in limited editions
The product in question is the “Hori Wired Controller Light: Dragon Quest Slime Edition for PS4,” released during the PlayStation 4 era. I was captivated at first sight because the shape of the blue Slime was integrated directly into the front of the controller.
The problem was that this product wasn’t officially released in Korea. Since I couldn’t even see it in person locally, I had to go through the hassle of importing it from Amazon Japan. Worried that one might break or that its collector’s value would be compromised, I bought three at once—one to keep as a spare, one to use, and one to potentially resell. Haha. You might think I’m being extra, but the satisfaction of holding it in my hands made it all worth it.
Isn’t the Slime limited edition design attractive?
As you can see, the biggest appeal lies in the placement of the front joysticks. The design, which aligns the left analog stick perfectly with the character’s round eye, left a deep impression on me every time I looked at it. Haha. It’s more accurate to view it as a character collectible rather than just a simple game controller.
Of course, it’s not a device that satisfies you in terms of functionality. It’s a bit small for an adult with large hands to hold, making it hard to ignore the wrist fatigue after long play sessions. The wired nature, which requires plugging in a cable every time, is also quite cumbersome.
Nevertheless, this controller had the power to change the atmosphere of my desk just by being there. Don’t you think? It had a strange charm that perfectly compensated for its lack of performance with visual delight and collectible value.
Conclusion…
It’s always a pleasure to find and use items that reflect your own unique tastes. While gear that everyone uses is fine, items you’ve gone out of your way to find remain in your memory for a long time. What is the most memorable game controller that has brought joy to your hands?
