Lofree Hyzen Review: Magnetic & Mechanical Hybrid Best 2026

This is the Lofree Hyzen, which physically combines the typing feel of a mechanical keyboard with the speed of magnetic switches. I put this freshly delivered new model on my desk a few days ago and ran some tests. It features an overwhelming design created by a heavy CNC-machined single aluminum block housing, dual knob controls, and a wide base LED light bar. It adopts a hybrid position that eliminates the need to operate two keyboards in an environment that bounces between gaming and office work.

Clean and Minimal Package Composition

When I first took the main body out of the box, the density transmitted to my fingertips was quite impressive. Thanks to the cold metal texture and solid finish, it feels less like a simple input device and more like a well-crafted object on your desk. It is a first impression that makes you focus entirely on the perfection of the housing itself rather than trying to grab attention with flashy packaging.

The Lofree Hyzen gives a very strong impression in terms of design. A single aluminum block was precisely CNC-milled to complete a seamless body. When placed on a desk, it has a weight that fills the space despite its 65% mini layout, and the 205-grit sandblasted surface not only enhances the luxurious matte finish but also resists fingerprints, making it easy to maintain.

The dial located on the left operates as an ‘F-row toggle’ switch that overcomes the limitations of the 65% mini layout. Turning the knob instantly converts the top number row into a function key (F-row) layout, and the top LED indicator intuitively displays the status. Being able to change the layout with a single physical operation provides both convenience and visual satisfaction.

In the upper right corner sits a dual knob that controls precise audio adjustments and connection modes. Dials placed on both sides of the solid aluminum housing create a visual balance that maximizes mechanical sensibility. It boasts intuitive operation and makes a great focal point for your desk setup.

The bottom and back of the keyboard feature a linear, futuristic design reminiscent of Tesla’s Cybertruck. The sharp metal edges falling at an angle are quite attractive. However, to maintain this intense exterior, the USB-C port is tucked deep inside the upper right rear, making connection a bit cumbersome.

Finally, the wide base LED light bar spanning the entire bottom adds a definite highlight to nighttime lighting setups. The cold texture of the metal housing and the softly spreading brilliant lighting provide an excellent match with the overall room ambiance.

Gasket Mount Structure Supporting Solid Typing

The interior adopts a gasket mount structure to suppress the characteristic resonance and hollow ping of solid aluminum. A flexible gasket structure inside the rigid metal housing effectively absorbs the physical impact delivered to your fingertips while typing. Furthermore, unnecessary noise is blocked to near perfection thanks to multi-layered sound-absorbing treatment carefully packed between the PCB and plate, as well as the bottom space.

For the switch plate, FR4 material with a great balance of flexibility and rigidity was used. Even amidst the softness created by the gasket structure, the characteristic firmness of the FR4 plate holds firm so that typing uniformity is not lost. Thanks to this, even when you strike the switches hard, the bottom-out feedback remains vivid while unpleasant vibrations and squeaks dissolve softly, completing an excellent typing environment.

Combination of Magnet and Mechanical: Nexus Switches

The core is the Nexus hybrid switch co-developed with Kailh. It is equipped with a TMR sensor that is more precise than existing Hall effect sensors, finely controlling the actuation point in 0.01mm increments.

Most general magnetic switches measure distance using only magnets and springs, making them mostly linear without any tactile bump. However, the Nexus switch retains the metal contact structure of traditional mechanical switches inside, preserving the physical bump unique to non-click (tactile) switches. This will be a distinct differentiator for those who felt the boredom of linear switches.

Pressing the shortcut (Enter + Fn) instantly switches between mechanical mode and magnetic mode according to pre-configured profiles. While it supports a hot-swappable PCB, you cannot mix switches of two different modes within the board other than the Nexus switches.

Top-Printed PBT Keycaps Ensuring Legibility

Lofree Hyzen Review: Magnetic & Mechanical Hybrid Best 2026

The keycaps use a translucent PC material that softly diffuses lighting. Instead of the trendy double-shot method, it adopts an intuitive top surface printing method so the letters are clearly visible. The font design is clean and the legends have high legibility, allowing you to quickly locate keys even in dimly lit environments. The smooth texture unique to PC material makes a soft contact with your fingertips during typing.

In addition, function (Fn) combination keys that are frequently used due to the mini layout are separately printed on the sides of the keycaps. Thanks to this, you can intuitively grasp shortcuts without flipping through the manual, allowing even users new to 65% layouts to adapt quickly.

Low-Pitch Clean Typing Feel and Suppressed Hollow Sound

The typing feel in mechanical mode highlights a low-pitch thocky tone. Thanks to the gasket structure, there is no hollow resonance or squeaking noise inside the housing even when striking switches hard. The stabilizer lubrication is also in good condition, producing almost no wire rattle when hitting the spacebar or enter key. However, the tactile bump inherent to the non-click mechanical mode is tuned to be somewhat soft.

Dedicated Acrylic Palm Rest Relieving Wrist Fatigue

The Hyzen has a somewhat high fixed typing angle of 12 degrees, which can strain your wrists during extended typing sessions. Fortunately, using the dedicated acrylic palm rest together neatly resolves this issue.

The design seamlessly integrates with the curves of the keyboard’s bottom section. In particular, the transparent acrylic material allows the lighting from the base LED light bar to softly diffuse, elevating the perfection of nighttime desk setup aesthetics to the next level.

Installation-Free Web-Based Software

Lofree Hyzen Review: Magnetic & Mechanical Hybrid Best 2026

All controls are possible through a web-based driver called ‘Lofree Hub’ without needing to install heavy dedicated software on your PC. The UI is configured quite intuitively. You can finely adjust the rapid trigger sensitivity—the core of magnetic switches—in 0.1mm increments, or set up SOCD (Simultaneous Opposing Cardinal Directions), which has become essential in the recent gaming scene, with just a few clicks. Beyond this, key mapping and RGB lighting effects can also be customized smoothly on the web, resulting in high satisfaction during actual use.

Real-World Experience Between Design and Practicality

Lofree Hyzen Review: Magnetic & Mechanical Hybrid Best 2026

During actual use, the left function toggle knob operated like a Caps Lock on an English keyboard, which felt fresh. In reality, during actual typing, combining the Fn key and number keys like using a capital Shift felt more natural and convenient to the hands. Even so, the visual satisfaction provided by the dual knobs themselves is so great that they pull their weight.

Lofree Hyzen Review: Magnetic & Mechanical Hybrid Best 2026

When enjoying PC rhythm games like DJMAX after work, the true value of magnetic mode shines. Thanks to the 8000Hz polling rate and detailed rapid trigger settings, micro-spam latency is reduced. It is uncompromised for daytime typing and nighttime hardcore gaming.

However, even with a large 10,000mAh battery, turning on 8K wireless connectivity and the flashy LED strip simultaneously drains the battery level quite a bit faster than expected.
