Beyond Naver: Launching a Global WP Site

Beyond Naver: Launching a Global WP Site

I have finally launched gearwhat.com, an independent website I have been planning for a long time. While I previously relied heavily on a single platform—Naver Blog—I have now built a base camp where I have full control over my operations and can reach out to the world. This website launch is more than just adding another channel; it is the final puzzle piece in completing my personal content ecosystem, which encompasses various social media platforms like Instagram, YouTube, Naver Blog, and Clips. It marks the start of diversifying my portfolio, effectively breaking free from dependency on any single platform.

The most notable feature of this site is its multi-language support for a global audience. The main domain, gearwhat.com, operates in English by default, while Japanese (/ja), Spanish (/es), and Portuguese (/pt) subdirectories are deployed in a multisite format. I have also configured the language (lang) attributes and routing settings so that the page automatically displays in the language that best matches the visitor’s browser settings.

W3Techs. Usage statistics of content languages for websites

There were specific criteria behind my language selection. According to W3Techs’ statistics on website content languages, English is far and away the leader (49.7%), followed by Spanish, German, Japanese, and French. Initially, I considered including German or French, which rank high in the statistics. However, I decided against German because their high proficiency in English makes the main English site sufficient for communication. Instead, I chose Portuguese, as it boasts a massive number of speaking countries and a huge potential population. While this may be a simple approach, it was a decision made to capture a larger share of global traffic.

Main Site (English):

Gear! What? – Skip to content  Menu      Gear! What? Recent Posts  25/06/2026 Why I’m Considering the Canon PowerShot V1  0 Comment on Why I’m Considering the Canon PowerShot V1 Share:  Share this on X : Why I’m Considering the Canon PowerShot V1  Share this on Facebook : Why I’m Considering the Canon P… gearwhat.com

This is the central axis of my global content. By publishing high-quality information on universal topics accessible to users worldwide in English, I am focusing on securing foundational organic traffic from global search engines like Google.

Japanese Site (/ja):

Gear! What? 日本語 – Skip to content  Menu ホーム Profile      Gear! What? 日本語 Recent Posts  06/25/2026 私がCanon PowerShot V1の購入を検討している理由  0 Comment on 私がCanon PowerShot V1の購入を検討している理由 Share:  Share this on X : 私がCanon PowerShot V1の購入を検討している理由  Share this on Facebook : 私がCanon PowerShot V1の購入を検討している理由  Share this… gearwhat.com

Japan is a market with its own search engine landscape and unique web consumption culture. Going beyond simple translation, I aim to engage this high-purchasing-power audience with detailed content that captures the nuances of the Japanese language.

Spanish Site (/es):

Gear! What? Español – Skip to content  Menu Inicio Profile      Gear! What? Español Recent Posts  06/25/2026 Por qué estoy considerando la Canon PowerShot V1  0 Comment on Por qué estoy considerando la Canon PowerShot V1 Share:  Share this on X : Por qué estoy considerando la Canon PowerShot V1  Share this on F… gearwhat.com

This market covers not only Spain but all of Latin America. Leveraging its status as one of the world’s most spoken web languages, this site will act as a primer to collect extensive traffic flowing from diverse countries.

Portuguese Site (/pt):

Gear! What? Português – Skip to content  Menu Início Profile      Gear! What? Português Recent Posts  06/25/2026 Por que estou considerando a Canon PowerShot V1  0 Comment on Por que estou considerando a Canon PowerShot V1 Share:  Share this on X : Por que estou considerando a Canon PowerShot V1  Share this on Fa… gearwhat.com

Targeting Portuguese speakers distributed across the globe, including the massive emerging market of Brazil. By stepping away from the Western European-centric language competition, I will cultivate this as a channel to claim a niche yet high-traffic region.

Moving away from a “Naver-only” strategy to a diversified platform was an essential task for long-term survival and growth. Now, in addition to my independent WordPress site, I have a suite of tools at my disposal: the Naver ecosystem, the video-based YouTube, and the image-focused Instagram. The synergy created when these channels work together organically will have an impact quite different from operating a single channel. It won’t be an easy journey, but having laid a solid foundation, I will continue to build up my content and achieve results. I hope you will keep watching as I embark on this journey with my newly launched global site.
