Custom 3D Printed Keycaps and Desk Accessories Hands-On

Today, I received a small package from my Instagram neighbor, Jini. I recently heard they got a 3D printer, and they sent me a box full of gifts they printed themselves.

• First to catch my eye is the arrow keycap keychain with a wood-texture finish. It is the currently trending keycap keychain from SeeDot, featuring ‘up, down, left, right’ characters combined with a traditional knot for a unique look.
• Also included is a black stand to neatly display artisan keycaps, alongside three tiny, cute white ghost mini figures. So adorable!
• The main highlight: three split spacebars custom-made for my keyboard layout. Since 2.5U split spacebars are hard to find on the market, I asked for them, along with matching 2.25U split spacebars for the left and right sides.

I immediately installed the white spacebar on my keyboard with yellow accents. It fits as perfectly as the original parts. Even though I provided the blueprints, I could truly feel the effort of operating the machine and printing them out myself. Thanks again! Since getting a 3D printer at home, they seem to have become a cottage industry artisan.

I placed the gifted black artisan keycap tray in the empty space in front of my monitor. Putting my favorite keycaps on it makes my desk feel much neater. There is a small pen holder built into one side of the tray. Instead of a pen, I placed my usual horn-rimmed glasses there. It wasn’t originally designed as an eyeglass stand, but it fits surprisingly well.

Using items printed by someone else turns out to be an even more delightful experience than expected. These small pieces of plastic hold a strong presence on my desk. I want to express my sincere gratitude once again to Jini for thoughtfully packaging and sending these gifts.
