GK798 PRO Review: The Ultimate Silent Mechanical Keyboard

Have you ever hesitated to use a mechanical keyboard at the office for fear of annoying your colleagues? I have tried various silent switches to solve this, but I am here to recommend the GK798 PRO for your workspace. While flashy typing sounds are fun, sometimes you just crave that satisfying, tactile “thocky” feel while maintaining a peaceful office environment.

The overall design is clean and understated. The calming color combination is timeless, allowing it to blend naturally into any desk setup. It is modern without being overly bulky, making it a perfect fit for a professional office desk.

Even though the housing is made of plastic, it feels remarkably substantial in the hand. It gives the impression of being well-constructed, and there is absolutely no sliding during heavy typing sessions. This is thanks to the five-layer internal sound-dampening structure, including the silicone base at the bottom. Because of this, there is virtually no hollow “pinging” sound, making the keyboard feel high-quality right out of the box without the need for custom tuning.

The installed “Deep Blue” silent switches live up to their name, offering a soft yet smooth typing experience. While typical silent red switches can feel a bit scratchy, these switches provide a “doughy,” satisfying texture. Because the bottom-out feeling is cushioned, there is less impact on your fingertips during long hours of document work.

The keycaps are made of durable PBT, so they won’t get shiny over time. The surface has a subtle texture that remains comfortable even if your fingers sweat. Being double-shot, the legends are also very crisp and clear.

When testing it in the office, it was quiet enough that my coworkers didn’t even notice. The deep, low-frequency sound of the keys actually helped improve my focus rather than being a distraction. It perfectly captures the joy of typing on a mechanical board while effectively muffling the noise.

Pros

  • The massive 8000mAh battery capacity means you can use it wirelessly for long periods without worrying about charging.

Cons

  • The user interface for the proprietary software is a bit dated and requires a short learning curve for initial adjustments.
