Are 16cm big fans the new trend? Should I try the Foldy 100-speed fan?
As the heat intensifies with each passing year, finding a portable fan for your desk or on-the-go use is never an easy task. Last year, small but powerful fans were all the rage, though they often felt a bit harsh on the eyes. This year, the trend seems to have shifted toward large-diameter fans. I had the opportunity to try the Foldy 100-speed big fan, and I’m sharing my honest, real-life experience with it.
What’s in the box?
When I first opened the box, there were no flashy or unnecessary materials—just the fan, a USB Type-C charging cable, a lanyard, and a thin manual. It’s a clean, no-nonsense package that gives a very organized first impression.
In fact, since I can use the existing USB-C charging infrastructure already on my desk, there’s no need to carry extra adapters or cables. Holding it in my hand, the weight distribution between the battery-packed handle and the motor-housing head is excellent, making it feel stable and comfortable for the wrist.
Is the design practical?
This Foldy big fan is available in bright white and a calm dark gray. I tested both, and while I personally preferred the clean look of the white model, my son thinks the matte-finish dark gray model is much better.
The fan housing is significantly larger than typical models, and there is a neat LED display in the center of the handle that clearly shows battery percentage and wind speed.
What are the functional highlights?
The most impressive feature of the Foldy big fan is the 100-speed control system. You can switch between 1, 25, 50, 75, and 100 levels using the physical button, or use the dial above it for precise 1-unit adjustments.
Because the intuitive numbers appear immediately on the display, it’s satisfying to visually confirm and control the exact wind speed you want.
Additionally, the hinge connecting the head and handle is very sturdy. Thanks to this folding design, you can keep it vertical for use as a handheld fan, or fold the handle back completely to use it as a stable stand on your desk while working.
How was it in actual use?
When I stood it up in desk mode next to my keyboard, the hinge was much firmer than I expected. It’s very easy to adjust the angle toward my face without it getting in the way of my typing or mouse movements.
When set to 25 speed or lower, the operational noise is significantly reduced, so it doesn’t disturb my concentration during work or while listening to music.
My son is also raving about it—he says it’s perfect for his daily commute and basketball practice. He says it’s much better than the smaller, faster-fan model he used last year.
Comparing it to a credit card, you can really feel how large the 16cm head is. While it’s too big to fit in a pocket, it folds down easily enough to fit into a handbag, making it convenient to tuck away when not in use.

The ability to fine-tune the wind speed to your exact comfort level and the fact that you don’t need a separate cradle make it quite convenient for daily life. If you consider your workspace and how often you go out, this could be a very useful tool to make your summer much more comfortable.
