Can the $35 DUNU Titan X deliver high-end sound quality?

Treble
The treble is quite open and airy. Perhaps thanks to the dual-chamber design, sounds like cymbals or the trailing edges of string instruments don’t get muddled and remain crisp. However, at high volumes, certain frequencies can feel a bit sharp. If you are sensitive to sibilance, you might find them slightly fatiguing over long periods.
Mids
Despite the V-shaped sound signature, I expected the vocals to be recessed, but they are surprisingly close and clear. The texture of both male and female vocals is well-preserved. However, in bass-heavy tracks, the punchy low end can slightly veil the lower register of the vocals. For those who want exclusively transparent, crystalline vocals, they may feel a bit thick.
Bass
The bass was the most satisfying aspect. The dual magnetic drivers produce bass that isn’t just boomy; it has a deep, tight, and impactful quality. The kick drums and bass guitar rhythms sound so “chewy” that you can’t help but nod your head. There is no better way to relieve stress than enjoying music with this level of impact.
Soundstage and Resolution
For a single-driver model, the soundstage is impressively wide. Instruments feel placed well apart, leaving no sense of congestion. Of course, it isn’t at the level of high-end multi-driver earphones where you can pinpoint every instrument with surgical precision, but it offers more than enough depth and imaging for watching movies or gaming.
Performance of the USB-C DAC Cable
Usually, DACs built into cables can be lackluster, but the Titan X performs surprisingly well even when connected directly to a smartphone. While it might lack the refinement of a dedicated desktop setup or high-end dongle, the overall sound balance is excellent. It seems to slightly smooth out the bass resonance and treble. Being able to enjoy consistent, high-quality sound regardless of the device—and having a durable pair for everyday carry—is a huge plus.
Daily Use Experience
Testing them during my commute on the subway and in cafes, I found that the metal shells provided great isolation, allowing me to focus entirely on the music. Whether listening to high-res FLAC files, watching YouTube, or enjoying Netflix, the wide soundstage and punchy impact significantly enhanced the entertainment value. The Titan X isn’t a dry monitoring tool meant for dissecting tracks; it’s an all-around “entertainer” that makes every genre sound dynamic and fun.
The Titan X comes in two versions: 3.5mm and USB-C. If you have your own DAC/amp, the 3.5mm version is more versatile. For direct smartphone use, the Type-C version is recommended. Since a variety of ear tips are included, I recommend experimenting with wide-bore tips if you find the bass too strong, or “Candy” tips if you want to emphasize the vocals.
