ABKO ACH105 Review: A Quiet Mech Keyboard for Office Workers

ABKO ACH105 Review: A Quiet Mech Keyboard for Office Workers

image

While there are countless options in the mechanical keyboard market, finding one that offers both a weighty, stable feel and quiet performance suitable for a black-themed desk setup is no easy task. I recently had the chance to test the ACH105 wired/wireless keyboard, featuring an all-black look with “dark-grey” keycaps—a style I personally prefer. While it does support vibrant RGB lighting, this setup emphasizes a calm and understated aesthetic.

Unboxing and Packaging

Opening the box, the keyboard appears protected by shock-absorbing material. The package includes a USB-C paracord cable, a dual-purpose keycap and switch puller, a cleaning brush, and a manual. It also comes with a dedicated plastic dust cover, which is perfect for keeping the keyboard clean when not in use. The puller is the standard type you often see.

Also, have you seen this? It includes a trendy keycap keychain! The clear design with a heart accent is quite cute.

Visual Depth: The All-Black Housing and Dark-Grey Keycaps

The exterior features a matte black finish with no light reflection. Combined with the toned-down dark-grey keycaps, it exudes a sophisticated, grave charm. The small LCD screen and knob on the top right add a touch of modern sensibility. Rather than a flashy color scheme, this monochromatic dark tone creates an environment that enhances work focus.

Frame Build Quality and Structural Rigidity

The outer frame is solid with no warping, and the joints are tightly sealed. When gripped, there is no creaking or loose sound, conveying high durability. Despite housing a wireless battery, the lower housing design is sleek and free of excess bulk. The rubber pads on the bottom effectively prevent the keyboard from sliding during typing. In fact, because there is a steel weight plate beneath the PCB, the center of gravity is quite low, making it feel very stable.

Typing Experience with HMX ABKO Sakura Switches

image

The switches are the silent version of the HMX ABKO Sakura switches, known for their precise factory lubrication. Thanks to the south-facing hot-swap PCB, they fit snugly without interference. The bottom-out sound is not dull but clear and crisp, sounding almost like tapping on a wooden cutting board. With no audible scratchiness, it reduces finger fatigue even during long typing sessions. It is more of a “semi-silent” switch, a trend that is currently very popular.

Texture and Durability of Cherry Profile PBT Keycaps

image

For the keycaps, a wear-resistant Cherry profile PBT material was chosen. The dark-grey background and dark legends maintain a harmonious, uniform look. The surface feels soft, like fine sand. It is resistant to oil buildup, so it remains clean without becoming shiny even after long periods of use.

3-Mode Wireless Connectivity and Battery Efficiency

image

Supporting wired, Bluetooth, and 2.4GHz wireless connections, it’s easy to switch between three devices. Equipped with a large 8000mAh battery, I didn’t even see a low battery warning after using it wirelessly for an entire week. The intuitive control knob for volume adjustment is a useful touch that doesn’t disrupt my workflow.

Key Mapping and Macros Without Security Software

image

The web-based driver is very convenient as it requires no separate software installation. Through the web page, you can map hotkeys to boost productivity, set up macros to reduce repetitive typing, customize LED lighting, and even upload custom images to the top-right display. It’s perfect for setting up a customized environment even on office PCs. Note: Resize your images before uploading to the LCD to minimize distortion.

Pros and Cons of the ABKO ACH105

Pros

  • Excellent typing sound for a plastic board, thanks to the solid housing and Poron gasket structure.
  • The quiet yet satisfying typing feel of the Sakura switches.
  • Sophisticated all-black design.
  • Large 8000mAh battery.

Cons

  • The dark-grey keycaps might be hard to read for some users.
  • Transferring GIFs to the top LCD via the web driver is a bit slow.
  • While it supports Mac, it does not include extra Mac-specific keycaps (Command/Option).

Final Thoughts: A Keyboard with Chic Black Aesthetics

Completing my setup with gear that has a clean typing sound and a perfect black aesthetic makes me feel like my work efficiency has increased as well. It’s a combination that focuses on practicality and functionality, shedding visual clutter, which means I can use it for a long time without getting tired of it. It’s a great companion for anyone looking to build their own quiet workspace.
