While building my desk setup, I ended up using components from various manufacturers—ranging from motherboards, RAM, and aRGB fans to light strips behind the desk and floor lamps in the corner of the room. SignalRGB is the program that ties all these fragmented devices together into one cohesive system.

I opted for the WiZ product ecosystem because Philips Hue and Nanoleaf were a bit too expensive for my budget. Although WiZ is not an officially supported device in SignalRGB, you can control it using third-party GitHub plugins. However, I struggled quite a bit with network errors during the setup process. I am posting this guide to ensure that if I (or anyone else) encounter the same problem in the future, we won’t get lost again.


WiZ App Settings: 2.4GHz Connection and Local Communication Permissions

Due to hardware limitations, WiZ devices must be connected to a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi band to function properly. Ensure you switch your connection to 2.4GHz before starting the app configuration. Once setup is complete, you can connect your main PC to a 5GHz network or a wired LAN; as long as they are on the same subnet under the same router, they will communicate fine. You must also enable control permissions in the smartphone app; otherwise, the lights will ignore all external control signals. Follow these steps:

  • Launch the WiZ V2 app on your smartphone.
  • Tap the ‘Gear’ icon in the top right corner of the home screen.
  • Go to the ‘Security’ menu under the current Home section.
  • Enable the ‘Allow local communication’ switch.
  • Select ‘Allow all controls’.

Since SignalRGB does not officially support WiZ, you need to add an external plugin. There is no need to manually copy files; simply pasting the script URL will cause it to load automatically in the background. Follow these steps to add the direct plugin:

  • Launch SignalRGB on your desktop.
  • Go to the settings menu via the gear icon at the bottom of the left tab.
  • Select the ‘Addons’ menu (puzzle piece icon).
  • Paste the GitHub address into the plugin search/input box at the top.

  • Turn on the power switch for the newly created ‘WIZ Network Plugin’ in the list.
  • Ensure the branch is set to ‘main’.

PC Network Settings: Passing the Firewall via Private Network Profile

Even after finishing the mobile app and PC plugin settings, I experienced an infinite loading loop during the light scan. The console showed that the communication socket was open, but nothing happened. I eventually discovered that the Windows Firewall security policy was the culprit.

When the discovery script broadcasts packets, the WiZ lights send response packets containing their unique IP addresses back to the PC. If your Windows network profile is set to ‘Public,’ the firewall will block these unfamiliar response packets. To resolve this:

  • Open Windows Settings and go to ‘Network & internet’.
  • Open the properties window for your currently connected Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
  • Change the Network Profile type to ‘Private’.
  • Power cycle your WiZ lights (turn the physical switch off, wait 5 seconds, then turn it back on).
  • Completely exit and restart the SignalRGB process.

Once you resolve the firewall issue, the WiZ IP addresses will appear in the console, indicating that everything is ready. When the lights appear in your device layout, the synchronization is complete. Now, the lights across the entire room move in unison with my motherboard, aRGB components, game effects, and even audio beats. Seeing them sync perfectly with the screen, despite being from different brands, makes all the time spent debugging worth it.

You don’t need to fill your room with expensive lighting to build a satisfying ecosystem. I hope this record of my trial and error proves helpful to other users.
